Department of Health Medicaid Waiver program

The Department of Health Medicaid Waiver program for survivors of traumatic brain injury T.B.I). "The Medicaid Waiver" is a program which serves approximately 2500 disabled individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. The mission of this program is to help these individuals who require nursing home level care maintain themselves in the community and avoid more costly nursing home placement.

Currently, the Waiver is in a crisis, not due to funding , but to paperwork and procedures.
If you have a loved one on the waiver, or would like to learn more about this crisis:

You can help by calling the Brain Injury Association of New York State
Family Help Line 1-800-228-8201, www.bianys.org or 518-474-6580- DOH- Albany to voice your concerns and importance of these current documents.

Stress and the Caregiver

How does the responsibility of Caregiving affect your relationship with others ?

I would like to introduce Home Companion Services as well as myself to this Site to discuss situations and insight that may arise with caregivers and their loved ones.

I'm Gina, and I work at HCS. I have been given the opportunity to share my knowledge of Caregiving as well as give you information on Homecare for the people who have been faced with the challenge of taking care of a loved one.

These concerns are important to me since I have experienced them first hand 4 years ago. I have dealt with many circumstances and situations that arise amongst family members and the journey you take together or apart from others.
